The Egyptian pyramids are among the most important tourist destinations in the world, famous and attractive to tourists, and they are considered one of the wonders of the world whose secrets have not yet been discovered.

History and purpose

The three pyramids were built during the Middle Kingdom and Old Kingdom periods, between the Third Dynasty and the Twelfth Dynasty, between 2670 and 1803 BC. The purpose of building the pyramids was to be temples of worship and a tomb for the king under whose watch the pyramid was built. The ancient Egyptians believed that there was another life after death. Therefore, the pyramids were built with secret rooms for the king’s tomb and fake rooms to mislead thieves who were working to steal the gold belongings that they had. The Pharaoh leaves her inside the tomb.

Great Pyramid (Pyramid of Khufu)

The Great Pyramid was built during the reign of King Khufu, during the heyday of the ancient Egyptian state, on a high plateau in the city of Giza in the years 2580 to 2560 BC. It has several internal corridors that lead to the king’s room, and this room contains a huge sarcophagus made of granite.

Weight of one stone block = 2.5 tons

The ceiling of the King's Chamber is a stone rock with the weight of a railway locomotive estimated at 70 tons

The number of workers who participated in building the Great Pyramid = 100,000 workers

Khafre's pyramid

Khafre's pyramid was built during the reign of King Khafre, son of King Khufu, in 2570 BC, on high ground opposite the Great Pyramid, which some people imagine is similar to it. Khafre's pyramid contains one burial chamber, a small room, and two corridors.

The base of Khafre's pyramid is a funerary temple with many statues of the king.

 

Menkaure's pyramid

The Pyramid of Menkaure is considered one of the smallest of the three pyramids and is 65 meters high. It was built in 2510 BC.

It is located on the Giza Plateau, south of Cairo, and it is believed that the Pyramid of Menkaure was built to be a tomb for King Menkaure.

The height of Menkaure's pyramid is 65.5 meters

Menkaure's pyramid was constructed from limestone from the Tora region and granite from the city of Aswan.

Inside the pyramid there is a burial chamber made of granite that can be accessed through corridors inside the pyramid.

Pyramid of Djoser

It is one of the most important ancient Egyptian pyramids. It is an archaeological landmark in the Saqqara necropolis near the city of Memphis. The step pyramid of Djoser consists of six steps, and the height of the pyramid of Djoser reaches 62 meters, it is the first stone building made of limestone.

 

Buried pyramid

It is an unfinished pyramid for King Sekhemkhet, the second king of the Third Dynasty in ancient Egypt from 2686 to 2613 BC.

 

Round pyramid

It is a pyramid that was built in the Third Pharaonic Dynasty in the years 2686 to 2613 BC.

This pyramid is located 8 km southwest of Giza and 7 km north of Saqqara.

The round pyramid has a square base with a side length of 84 meters.
